What is Ramadan?
The Islamic month of fasting from dawn to sunset.
The ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Muslims fast from dawn to sunset — no food, no water, no smoking. In 2026: approximately 18 February to 19 March. Most tourist businesses stay open. Riads serve breakfast and lunch. Restaurants serving visitors continue to operate.
What is Eid al-Adha?
Morocco's most important religious holiday.
Known locally as Eid el-Kbir or the *Fête du Mouton*. Families sacrifice a sheep to commemorate the Prophet Ibrahim's obedience. The meat is divided into thirds: one for the family, one for relatives and friends, one for those in need.
When are public holidays?
11 fixed national holidays and 4 Islamic holidays that shift annually.
