Why can't my taxi take me to the door?
The short answer
Riads are nestled in car-free zones of the medina.
Vehicles circulate on the main roads inside the walls, but the streets — or derbs — where riads are located narrow to a metre or two — wide enough for pedestrians, donkeys, and motorbikes, not cars. Your taxi drops you at the closest point a vehicle can reach, and you walk the rest.
